25. Week 4 – Recap !

Fakaalofa lahi atu, reader!

If you don’t know what I am blogging about, go read my other blog post about the RECAP.

Value of the Week – Manaakitanga
Manaakitanga means looking after others beyond ourselves, and also showing consideration and respect for others.

Today I will be blogging about what I have been doing for the past week. In this blog post, I will include Reading, Maths, and lastly, Writing.

Reading
I have been reading about the Māori Battalion. The Māori Battalion is about young people back in the 1900s going into World War.

The 28th Māori Battalion was a group of brave Māori soldiers who fought in World War II — like a special army unit within New Zealand. They were known for their courage and helped New Zealand with the war effort, both at home and overseas.

It was like a team of heroes who were strong and fought for their country. We also had to make a DLO about the Māori Battalion.

Maths
I have been working on fractions, decimals, and percentages. For the past week, we have been doing fractions, decimals, and percentages. We have been continuing the same maths as last week, which includes prisms and nets — this is in my other post from last week.

We have been using Mathematics and Statistics / Oxford / Year 8. We have also been doing our pre-tests and post-tests. That’s what we have been working on for the past few weeks.

We now have a new unit and topic, which is Unit 3, Topic 2. This unit is about fractions, percentages, and decimals.

Writing
For writing, I have been doing Current Events, which means reading Kiwi Kids News that has news stories from around the world. We can choose one we really want to do, but it has to be one of these categories: World, Sport, Odd Stuff, or National.

For the past two weeks, we have been writing a newspaper that includes all the news we picked from Kiwi Kids News. We had to write about each news story we chose. We were asked to write four pieces on one whole page — it only had to be one page.

But I couldn’t fit all four pieces on the page because it was too much, so I wrote two pieces for the newspaper. We also had to come up with a name for our newspaper, and mine is called Main News.
